12. John J. Roberts was born in Dec 1868 in Maryland. He appeared in the census in 1900 in Maryland.¹² In the 1900 Census, a niece, Katie Cropper, born 1897, was enumerated with the family. The census indicates that both of John's parents were born in Maryland. This fact conflicts with the family tradition that states that John's father was Valantine Roberts who emigrated from Wales at age five.

It may be possible that Valentine was the grandfather instead of the father. If so, John's father may be Thomas Roberts enumerated in Baltimore City in the 1880 census (Vol. 8, E.D. 154, Sheet 12, line 14-19) as follows:

Barbara (wife) b. abt 1845 in Germany or Maryland (census unclear, parents born in Germany)
John (son) age 11
Joseph (son) age 9
Martin (son) age 6

This enumerated family resided at 118 Cooksie in Baltimore. Thomas was a butcher. The 1900 census indicates that John could both read and write. John J. Roberts and Annie E. Snyder were married about 1891.

13. Annie E. Snyder was born on 13 Oct 1869. She appeared in the census in 1900 in Maryland.¹³ The 1900 census indicates that Annie could not read nor write. Children were:
